Puffy eyes are the appearance of swelling in the tissues around the eyes.

Puffy eyes also known as under-eye “bags” or peri-orbital puffiness, or swelling around the eyes. Under-eye “bags” may be normal for a given individual, as they run in some family. Puffy eyes are a common cosmetic problem and normally don’t require any treatment, but in some may be a sign of a minor or more serious health condition. It is often noticed puffy eyes and dark under-eye circles co-exist and are the outcome of fluid retention, allergies, stress, and so on.

What causes puffy eyes?

  • Systemic health disorders: such as Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism due to infiltration with the mucopolysaccharides, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfate; and Nephrotic syndrome.

  • Tear glands: if the tear duct is blocked, it can cause puffiness around the eyes.

As eyes represent the most beautiful feature of any person, there are many ways to help reduce puffiness around your eyes. Most of the time treatment is not required and some simple home remedies are recommended; but in some with cosmetically more concerned, for them essential to get cosmetic surgery. Homemade remedies to rejuvenate your beautiful eyes:

Massage eyelids gently: : Massage your eyelids with Castor oil or Vaseline with gentle hands. This will help in draining out the fluid around your eyes. Message in combination with ice cubes wrapped in a cotton cloth or towel will drastically reduce puffy eyes.

Tea Bags: Chilled tea bags are the right solution if you are expecting the results in no time. Under-eye puffiness is caused because the blood vessels get dilated. Green Tea constricts the blood vessels and thus reduces the dark circles.

Take two tea bags and dip them chilled water Keep the tea bags over your eyes for about 15 minutes, and then wash your face with cool water. You can notice freshness and reduction in puffiness.

Cucumber Slice Pack: Cucumber has a refreshing and soothing effect, and is an excellent and most effective home remedy for puffy eyes and will reduce under-eye circles too.Take two thick slices of a cucumber and refrigerate for a few minutes. Put them on the eyes for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse your face with cold water. Repeat the process every day. Over a period of time, you will feel refreshed eyes with will notice diminished bags.

Potato Slice Pack: Raw potatoes contain antioxidants and possess natural bleaching properties. Take two thin slices of raw potato and refrigerate for a few minutes. Put them on the eyes for 15 to 30 min. Rinse your face with cold water. Repeat the process every day. Over a period of time, you will feel refreshed eyes with will notice diminished bags and under-eye darkness.

In most cases, under-eye swelling comes and goes away on its own. In a certain severe limit, you need to see a doctor for under puffy eyes as the cause of the condition can be different if it occurs over a long period of time.
