Laser Hair Removal

Nowadays, Laser Hair Removal is the only answer for your constant struggle for maintaining SMOOTH HAIR FREE SKIN

Laser Hair Removal technology; destroy the hair follicle with energy beams converted into heat. The root of every shaft of hair sits in a tiny sac called the hair follicle. Laser hair removal damages this hair follicle, eliminating hair growth. Traditional treatment such as Waxing, Threading, Tweezing, Plucking, etc., is time-consuming and temporary.

Let us know, what is required to achieve 100% results with LHR technologies, other than individual skin and hair type, hormonal levels, etc.,

  • The wavelength of Lasers (nm)
  • Stamping mode & In-motion laser technology

Most commonly used lasers & light for laser hair removal are:

  • Diode Laser Hair Removal
  • Long Pulse NDYAG Laser hair removal
  • Alexandrite Laser hair removal
  • IPL - Intense pulse light hair removal

Each of the different types of laser has a specific range of utility, depending on its wavelength and penetration for every skin and hair type.

How does the procedure work?

Laser hair removal works on the principle called ‘selective photothermolysis’. It means that dermatologists match a specific wavelength of light and pulse duration to obtain the maximal effect. Melanin is the color pigment present in skin and hair that absorbs this radiation, acting on the target.

The melanin in the hair follicles absorbs the intense heat of the laser, thereby damaging the hair follicle, hence inhibiting future hair growth. That is why the treatment works best on lighter skin (low melanin) and dark hair (higher melanin) as the melanin in the hair draws the radiation away from the skin. Laser hair removal (LHR) is the most efficient method of long term hair reduction currently available.

SHR technology works by gradually heating the dermis to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents re-growth while avoiding injury to the surrounding tissue. A high repetition rate of short pulses is delivered deep into the dermis, achieving high average power and therapeutically effective heat build-up, with virtually no pain. The sweeping In-motion™ technique of moving the applicator repeatedly over the treatment area ensures full coverage while ICE™ tech cools the skin surface – preventing superficial burns and allowing for virtually painless, yet highly effective hair removal.

Different lasers are effective for different hair and skin types:

Diode laser: Amongst the different lasers available, a diode laser is a time tested among the laser technology. There are many reasons for this, such as: Diode laser projects light within the visible to the infrared range (810 nm) in order to target specific pigment (melanin) cells. It works on both light and dark skin. However, it is more effective for darker, terminal hair than lighter, finer hair. Compared to other lasers, its wavelength offers the deepest penetration and superior melanin absorption.

These unique characteristics make diode laser the most suitable technology for laser hair removal, allowing safe and effective treatment of all skin and hair types, for all body areas. Diode laser hair removal is so popular because of its speed and efficacy. A single session rarely takes more than an hour. In fact, it an office-hour procedure, which means that it is quick & ensures a speedy recovery. This procedure has been proven to achieve ‘permanent hair reduction’ in >90% of the cases. It ensures a stable reduction, in hair re-growth after a prescribed treatment regime.

Long Pulse Nd Yag laserThe Nd: YAG long pulse laser can be used safely on all skin types – type I to VI. Most notably, it is highly effective on dark or tanned skin with darker hair but is of limited use on light or fine hair. Fast repetition rates and large coverage areas allow large areas of the body to be treated quickly. Nd: YAG technology can be used to eliminate unwanted hair on almost any part of the body.

Alexandrite Laser The Alexandrite laser has a shorter wavelength than the Diode and Nd: YAG lasers, and has been used effectively for laser hair reduction treatment on skin types I-IV, meaning fair and light brown skin types. The shorter wavelength makes the treatment more effective on lighter skins, and finer hairs as they are more superficial and not suitable for darker skins.

Pre-Procedure:
  • Your doctor will discuss with you your detailed medical history, the risks and benefits of treatment, and your expectations from it beforehand.
  • Will shave the area you wish to get the procedure
  • Don’t wax or use other hair removal methods like plucking or electrolysis anytime between the laser hair removal treatment sessions.
  • Stay away from the sun, tanning beds, spray tans, tanning lotion.
  • You may be advised not to have treatment if you are facing sunburn.
  • Don’t use scrubs, glycolic acid, and retinol creams for 1-3 days before treatment, and chemical peels 15days prior.
During The Procedure:
  • Test patch: it’s important to conduct a small test patch first to make sure that your skin is accepting of the treatment as pigment problems, discoloration, and scarring can occur in some skin types with cosmetic laser treatments.
  • Eye protection: Your doctor will provide eye protection to avoid the effects of radiation around the eyes.
  • Settings: The laser settings are adjusted for both your skin and hair color so that the wavelength of the light emitted from the laser beam matches that of the pigment in your hair.
  • Pain: The pain feels like someone is snapping you with a rubber band every time the laser fires. Most lasers also have a cooling mechanism to help with the pain.
After Procedure:
  • Some swelling or blistering may occur. Therefore, you can use an ice pack to help relieve it. It usually subsides within 2-3 days.
  • SPF 30 sunscreen post-treatment is a compulsion to prevent pigmentation issues.
  • Do not wax or pluck your hair even after the treatment, because pulling out hair follicles after laser hair removal hinders the process. However, you can shave the area if you want.
  • It is advisable to avoid perfumes and deodorants for 24-48 hours after treatment.
  • The heat generated from the laser stays in your skin for few hours, so don’t go to the gym or saunas in order to avoid creating a warm environment for the bacteria to breed in and give you spots.
  • Your physician may prescribe anti-inflammatory medication to relieve pain and swelling, and sometimes antibiotics to prevent infection.

Why does every individual require multiple sessions?

A series of treatment sessions are necessarily required to ensure permanent hair reduction. This is because hair grows in four stages: anagen (growing stage), telogen (transitional), catagen (resting stage), and early anagen (shedding). Almost all hair removal lasers work only on actively growing hair that is in the anagen stage because this is when the hair contains abundant melanin, which is essential to absorb the radiation from the laser that can disable the follicle. Thereby a series of treatments is necessary required to attack each of the hair follicles present on the treatment area during their growing stage.

Duration of treatment: The exact duration of each session varies in every case, depending on the size of the treatment area and how many areas are being treated during the same session. As on average, smaller areas such as the bikini line, upper lip, chin, or the underarms can take as little as five to ten minutes and the larger areas of the body such as the back, chest, shoulders or legs can take half an hour or longer. The number of treatment sessions and the gap between them also depends on multiple factors like: smaller areas such as the bikini line, upper lip, chin, or the underarms can take as little as five to ten minutes.

  • skin type, hair color & hair coarseness
  • the depth of hair follicle and overall hair growth density

In general, the majority of the individuals will need at least 5-7 sessions with hair removal laser. The duration between 2 sessions will be around 6-10 weeks apart. This will help achieve 70-95% hair reduction. With subsequent sessions, you will witness fewer and fewer hair cropping back until you start experiencing smooth, hairless skin all year round. Even in some cases where few hairs keep growing back, they are barely noticeable.

Results: If you are expecting good results, patience and regular follow-up are very important, you need to follow your sessions as advised by your doctor so that each hair follicle can be targeted in its active stage. Herewith advisable not to be lazy in scheduling and keeping up with your sessions. In most cases, 30-50% hair reduction is noticed at the 3 treatment and about 70-95% of hair re-growth reduction after 5-7 treatment sessions.

When could I notice the results?

You can feel smooth and hairless skin as early as the first treatment itself, but it shall need multiple such treatments for the effects to become permanent. Moreover, the hair may grow back like before after the first session, you will notice a dramatic drop in the growth of your unwanted hair follicles after the 3 months, and notice even more different after that. Similarly, you will see fewer and fewer hair return after progressive treatments, so finishing the entire series of treatment sessions is crucial to attaining the highest degree of permanent hair reduction.
