Acne Home Remedies

Acne or pimples is one of the most common skin disorders that affect almost everyone at some point in life. There are different approaches everybody chooses for managing acne such as a change in lifestyle, home remedy, or skincare products or medical line of treatment to get rid of their acne. Getting rid of acne with natural remedies at home is a simple way everyone can adopt. Acne home remedies are harmless and a majority of ingredients are easily available at home and you can try with minimum efforts.

Honey has anti-inflammatory antibacterial properties and can be used to moisture the skin. Raw honey is a great source of vitamin, enzymes, and other natural nutrients. Used in combination with grated apple or plain oatmeal as a pack; will serve as an excellent source of vitamin c for your skin. Even you can try honey and sugar as a mixture. Apply this mixture to your skin over face and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes and with warm water.


A natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial due to its active compound zinc. You can make an oatmeal mask with honey, milk, or coconut water. For an effective acne mask, you may mix 2 tablespoons of oatmeal and honey with ½ spoon of lemon juice and 4 drops of tea tree oil. This is an effective mask that cures pimples quickly. It makes your skin clean, soft, and supple if used on regular basis.


Lemon has antimicrobial properties in reducing acne and as an excellent exfoliant to reduce the appearance of scars. 

Mix equal amount of lime juice and water, and apply to skin with a cotton ball, leave for 10-15 minutes and rinse with warm water. Do not apply it to the skin near your eyes.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is made by fermenting apple cider, or the unfiltered juice from pressed apples. It contains organic acids such as malic and lactic acid, may kill acne-causing bacteria and dry up the excess oil that causes acne. It even exfoliates the skin to reduce the red marks. Mix one part of apple vinegar and two parts water and apply to the skin with a cotton ball, make sure to shake well before use, to avoid irritation

Citrus Fruits

Acidic foods like citrus fruit juice or vinegar are astringent and can flush pores and help dry out acne. Dab a little onto a cotton ball and gently wipe on the affected areas

Green tea is very high in antioxidants, and drinking it can promote good health. Applying 2-3% green tea significantly reduces sebum production, fight inflammation, and pimples in those with acne-prone skin. This is because the flavonoids and tannins in green tea are known to fight bacteria and reduce inflammation

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has strong anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, help prevent acne and pimples. Tea tree oil is very potent, so it is better to dilute it; before applying to your skin. Mix 1 part tea tree oil with 9 parts water, apply with a cotton swab. Tea tree oil is an essential oil extracted from the leaves.


Turmeric ingredients have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties and a solid solution to get rid of acne at home. Mix turmeric powder with coconut oil and apply directly onto the pimples overnight and rinse it well with the water in the morning.

Egg Whites:

Egg whites have been used as a quite effective home remedy for wrinkles and pimples. Add grated carrot in egg white and apply it to your face for at least 20 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water. It’s better to add lime juice with egg in place of carrots; if you have oily skin.


Aloe Vera is a tropical plant whose leaves produce a clear gel… Aloe Vera has antibacterial properties and can promote healing, fight infection, and even reduce scarring. Aloe vera also contains salicylic acid and sulfur, which are both used extensively in the treatment of acne.


Aspirin used not only for relieving pain; but also used to manage acne. Salicylic acid is the main ingredient in aspirin. Aspirin can dry up pimples and reduce inflammation. You may form a paste by crushing aspirin in a little water or dissolve four tablets in 2 tablespoons of water and you can notice the results.

Avoid certain foods

Avoid oily, fried or junk foods and dairy products because these lead to acne breakouts. Foods processed in high sugar index white bread, sweets, etc., and beverages such as chips, baked food made with white flour and soft drinks increases blood sugar levels triggers acne. Consume more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Reduce stress

Stress doesn’t cause pimples but may make the worse. Change in necessary lifestyle may relieve stress; as stresses will increase cortisol levels, which in turn can increase the oil secretion. Some options such as yoga, meditation, massage, sound therapy, etc., relieve stress.


Do regular exercise which is good for the body, mind, and skin. Exercise promotes healthy blood circulation, regulates hormones, and helps reduce stress.

Ice cube

Rubbing of an ice cube or ice wrapped in a thin cloth applied on and off can reduce inflammation in moderate to severe acne.


If you’re dehydrated, your body may signal your skin’s oil glands to produce more oil leading to the initiation of acne. Dehydration also gives your skin a dull appearance and promotes inflammation and redness.
